Our goal has always been to bring people together for a good time.
More than 20 years ago, brothers Balbir and Harmeet Bans fulfilled a lifelong dream and founded the AMRIT restaurants in Berlin. They brought not only Indian culture and hospitality to the capital, but also their mother’s traditional recipes, which still form the foundation of the dishes today. For the Bans family, it was important from the very beginning to honor their roots and bring a piece of India closer to the people of Berlin.

Without our parents, we wouldn’t be where we are today. The basic recipes of our Indian cuisine come from our mother, who brought the taste of home closer to us with her love and dedication.
Our father gave us the blessing, strength, and support to succeed in Berlin. His confidence was our anchor in stormy times.

New generation
Since the founding, Balbir and Harmeet have worked daily in their restaurants, living the family atmosphere that makes AMRIT so special. This close bond to the family has also been passed down to the next generation: Today, their sons are increasingly taking on responsibility and actively shaping the future of the company. While the brothers laid the foundation, the new generation is ready to carry on the family’s success story while bringing fresh ideas to the table. This way, AMRIT remains a family-run business that preserves its traditions and keeps Indian cuisine alive for the future.

The Bans brothers fulfilled their dream by founding their first Indian restaurant under the name AMRIT.
AMRIT stands for authentic Indian cuisine of the highest quality. While Berlin has many Indian restaurants, few offer as much space combined with such exceptional quality.
Restaurant Berlin Mitte
In 1999, with the support of their family, the brothers opened another Indian restaurant in the Berlin district of Mitte. In the meantime, AMRIT has made a name for itself in Berlin.
Anyone who wants traditional Indian cuisine goes to the AMRIT Restaurant. From day one until now, the two brothers have been personally involved.

Auch bei der Eröffnung des Flagship-Stores direkt am Potsdamer Platz, wo 2013 ein weiteres indisches Restaurant eröffnet wurde, gibt „Papa Bans“ seinen Segen mit auf den Weg und zerschlägt eine Kokosnuss im Eingangsbereich des Restaurants.

THE ORIGIN
After the relocation of the first AMRIT a few doors down to a larger venue, the original restaurant served as a delivery kitchen for a long time. This changed with renovation measures in the spring of 2024. Now shining in a new light, the original AMRIT has been transformed into an exclusive event location under the new name “THE ORIGIN”, perfect for all occasions.
